A life dedicated to books: Umberto Eco and his personal library

On October 21, 2026, the new “Umberto Eco” Regional Library in Turin inaugurated its 2026–2027 cultural program with an event titled “A Life for Books: Umberto Eco and the Personal Library.” Organized in collaboration with the Umberto Eco Foundation, the event explored the significance of personal libraries—specifically those belonging to prominent authors—and their transition from private collections into public heritage. A key focus of the discussion was the transfer of Eco’s personal working library to the University of Bologna. Speakers included film director Davide Ferrario and scholars Francesca Tancini, Sara Dinotola, and Roberto Testa, with Riccardo Fedriga serving as moderator. This initiative marks the launch of cultural activities at the new library—located at Via Alfieri 13—which has been designed as a space for reading, study, and intellectual exchange, open to the entire community. clicca
