"Conoscere Umberto Eco a... "

Masterclasses for students and teachers at Italian schools within the ADASIM Foundation network.

29 September – 2 October
"Conoscere Umberto Eco a... "

"Conoscere Umberto Eco a..." is a project promoted by ADASIM – the Dante Alighieri Foundation for Italian Schools Abroad – designed to help secondary school pupils abroad discover the vast and multifaceted legacy of our master, moving beyond the stereotypes of the internationally successful writer.
For this first step of the tour, I will be in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata alongside Leonardo Romei, the project’s curator, and Emilio Luzi, General Director of the ADASIM Foundation. The sessions will revolve around three main themes:
Reading, understanding, interpreting; Institutions of memory: books, libraries and museums; The visual imagery of novels and the adaptations of The Name of the Rose into films and graphic novels.

I was a student of Umberto Eco’s in Bologna during his early years of teaching at the Alma Mater, and I hope to be able to convey to my students at least a sense of his infectious enthusiasm for knowledge in all its forms, his deep faith in young people and in teaching, his priceless sense of humour and his extraordinary vitality…
